Just north of Santa Barbara, this concrete and glass house features minimalist architecture and warm interior design.

“Our client’s dream was to find a waterfront property with perfect exposure that would allow them to build a garden that could accommodate their woodland treasures,” says Stuart Silk, principal at Stuart Silk Architects.


In this region of Maui—the second largest in the Hawaiian Islands—winds can be gentle or fierce, depending on the season. Taking this into account, the Olson Kundig team strategically positioned this 4,500-square-foot home.

While this house was built in 2007, its architecture and interior design clearly references Californian Modernism. It’s one of the reasons why Ron Radziner loves it so much.

With the LA Design Festival just around the corner (June 20-23) and a vibrant art scene—highlighted by the first edition of the city’s Frieze art fair last February—Los Angeles is well into its rebirth as a vibrant cultural and creative destination.





Located in the Tehachapi Mountains area, the remote site on which this sustainable single-family retreat was built known as “Sawmill,” presented both challenges and opportunities for the project designer Tom Kundig of Olsen Kundig.
