85°C Bakery Café: a Baker’s Delight

Founded by culinary creative Mr. Cheng-Hsueh Wu in 2003, the chic yet casual 85°C Bakery Café actually has roots among the white linen tablecloths and crystal chandeliers of a post-five-star hotel.

Downtown Los Angeles’ Newest 85°C Bakery Café Raises the Temperature on Fresh-baked Goods

While delighting in the hotel café’s gourmet pastries and drinks, Cheng-Hsueh Wu noticed that the prices of these tantalizing treats were set way too high to be enjoyed on a whim.

Thus, the concept for 85°C Bakery Café—a one-stop shop for expertly crafted baked goods and creative coffee drinks. The name 85°C Bakery Café symbolizes their devotion to providing coffee of the highest quality, as they believe that coffee holds its best flavor at a steady 85 degrees Celsius.

Drawing a devoted following, the café’s new Downtown Los Angeles locale does not disappoint, offering up the same blend of traditional Taiwanese, Japanese, and European-inspired delicacies as its other global outposts. Pair one of its decadent coffee drinks with a freshly-baked treat, like the classic Brioche, a rich Japanese-style bread with a creamy, buttery flavor; or indulge in the Mango Bread filled with a sweet mango-swirled cream and topped with a glazed frosting for a satisfying start to the day.

If in the mood for something savory, try the Calamari Stick, a delicate squid ink-based bread with Swiss cheese, or the Pork Sung Bun topped with dry shredded pork and a blended mayo sauce. Either way, one taste of the satiating fare at 85°C Bakery Café will leave you kneading more.
