Tacos Tu Madre: Street Tacos With A Twist

A Walk-up Concept, Tacos Tu Madre Elevates Westwood’s Dining Scene

Tacos tu Madre is a new playful, modern take on Mexican street tacos. The casual concept from Oliver Mateen and Joshua Pourgol was inspired by the latter’s globetrotting adventures. Vibrant and colorful on the outside, with Day of the Dead-inspired murals creating a surrealist vibe, the interior is simple; black and gray with modern tables and pops of color from bright artwork on the walls.

The inventive menu plays on memorable flavor profiles not normally found in Mexican cuisine. “Basic” tacos, like Lamb Birria with braised lamb, pico de gallo and avocado coconut cream sauce served with house-made red pepper aioli, and Chorizo & Egg, with chorizo, guacamole, fried egg and chili lime fresco compete with “Premium” tacos such as the Vegan Banh Mi with cabbage, tofu, pickled veggies and avocado cream sauce, and a Korean BBQ taco with bulgogi, kimchee, pickled red peppers and shaved cabbage.

If that isn’t enough to send your mind reeling, there is also a “Specialty” menu featuring unique items like Duck Confit with Foie Gras, Braised Ostrich and Unagi. Pourgol and Mateen round out the menu with Infused Fruit, Street Corn and Red Velvet Churros.

Open daily, Tacos tu Madre has taken Westwood by storm. And in short, it’s nothing like your mother’s tacos.
