Award-winning Restaurant Faith & Flower Blossoms in Downtown Los Angeles

First there’s the catchy “then and now” theme that celebrates Faith & Flower’s locale on Flower Street—called Faith Street in the ’20s. Then there are those mouthwatering dishes and classic cocktails that the eatery has been churning out to satisfied devotees since it opened at the base of the WaterMarke Tower in Downtown Los AngelesSouth Park district in April 2014.

“The atmosphere and vibe are very much in tune with the theme; the interior transports you into the 1920s,” says General Manager Jenae Kama of Faith & Flower, a collaboration between developer Cindy Troesh and restaurateur Stephane Bombet (of Bombet Hospitality Group) that was recognized as one of “The Best New Restaurants in America” by Esquire soon after its debut.

“The theme also pays homage to Downtown LA’s rich history while incorporating the newly revived downtown that we see today. It’s all in the details.”

Rounding out the décor in the 11,000-square-foot space are massive floor-to-ceiling windows, hardwood floors, and custom furniture made with vintage glass.

Also in play are great food, award-winning cocktails, friendly staff, and a loyal clientele of locals and out-of-towners alike. Widely known for its classic, pre-prohibition-style cocktails with freshly made juices and syrups, house favorites include the English Milk Punch (an Esquire “Cocktail of the Year” winner showcasing rum, cognac, absinthe, and clarified milk). A new fall/winter cocktail menu is set to launch in mid-October.

The restaurant also hosts a winemaker dinner series on the third Monday of each month, with customers being treated to an intimate dinner with the winemaker and a special wine-pairing menu.

“Wine Director Jared Hooper is constantly bringing in new and exciting wines, sometimes only a few bottles at a time,” says Jenae Kama.

“So, you can try some really exciting wines, like Jen Bartz’s ‘Last Summer Grenache’—after the wine is foot treaded and oaked in neutral barrels, Jen hand waxes each bottle and hand draws the labels.”

As for the menu, chef Walter Nunez (most recently of Jardinière) specializes in seasonal, market-driven selections offering New American cuisine rife with California ingredients. Among the favorites: Deviled Jidori Eggs (with Korean chili, sesame seed and kimchee); Oxtail Agnolotti (with bone marrow butter, stone fruit conserva, and beef tendon chicharrones); and Eggs Benedict Pizza (with smoked bacon, spinach and Hollandaise sauce).

“If you haven’t been to Faith & Flower, it’s the kind of place where you can get away from the noise of life and just have fun experiencing a great meal,” says Jenae Kama.

“You will find new additions nearly every week, whether it be a wine, a new dish, or a fun cocktail special.”

So, what are you waiting for? You don’t need a permission slip…just head out and enjoy an unforgettable culinary field trip!
