The Spot in Hermosa Beach Calling All Vegetarians

By

Share

Having marked its 38th birthday this past July, South Bay vegetarian mainstay, The Spot in Hermosa Beach still stands proudly along a side street, its retro-red awning just a stone’s throw from the beach. Step inside and you’ll find a homey, easygoing setting where classic meatless fare, such as barbecue tofu sandwiches and bowls of organic brown rice heaped with steamed vegetables and soy cheese, is enjoyed.

Fresh and consistent, the restaurant is a friendly place to pop in for a fresh-squeezed morning carrot juice or cage-free egg scramble with soy chorizo or relish a leisurely lunch and dinner in its cozy indoor courtyard. Longstanding menu items include hearty house burritos wrapped in whole wheat tortillas, and “Inflation Busters”—dishes of rice, beans, vegetables or tofu topped with a savory house sauce.

Dish or the time of day aside, The Spot only serves organic whole grains and cooks everything with purified water. Raw, organic agave is used to sweeten the desserts and most items can be prepared vegan. In keeping with the times, there’s even a dedicated gluten-free menu.

Bon (healthy) appétit!
