3350 Serra Road: Life at the Lake

3350 Serra Road the Serra Lakehouse epitomizes chic resort-style living, right in the heart of Malibu

The designer of this newly built contemporary home in Malibu didn’t have a lake handy. So, he created his own in the form of a stunning custom pool surrounded by a lush green lawn— flanked by a tennis court and hills on one side and a dramatic great room that opens seamlessly to a massive outdoor patio via wall-to-ceiling sliding glass doors on the other.

Situated at 3350 Serra Road—in lower Malibu Canyon’s exclusive guard-gated Serra Retreat neighborhood, on a swath of tranquil land owned by the Franciscan Friars since 1942—the four-bedroom, six-bath residence is an entertainer’s paradise, featuring the finest in materials and furnishings. Conceived by Brent Hocking, the CEO of a high-end tequila and whiskey brand, the home was built earlier this year by local contractor Mark Armfield in conjunction with Laguna Beach interior designer Colleen Torres and LA architect Doug Burdge.

“Serra Retreat is one of the most exclusive enclaves in Malibu because it is a 24-hour guard-gated neighborhood right in its heart,” says Sandro Dazzan, who is listing the 7,247-square-foot estate for $19.950 million. “Many celebrities and high-profile people live or own property in Serra (such as James Cameron and Larry Ellison). It is completely private and quiet, yet only a short walk or bike ride to Surfrider Beach, restaurants and shops at the Country Mart in Cross Creek, and hiking and horse trails. Living in the home is a true resort-like experience.”

Perhaps the home’s biggest wow factor is the dramatic great room that opens via Fleetwood pocket sliding doors to an expansive, almost 2-acre level backyard. There, one finds an elegant, 72-foot glass bead-finished, negative-edge pool/spa that reflects the surrounding trees and mountains and resembles a lake (hence, The Serra Lake House moniker), along with an outdoor kitchen and bar area with a retractable roof, tennis court and a 30-person sunken fire pit area.

“The massive California Hass avocado tree, rare Monkey puzzle tree, and pepper and palm trees lit at night create a simply gorgeous resort setting,” adds Dazzan.

This residence is indeed an entertainer’s dream. Other standout features include seamless soft concrete and scraped chocolate oak flooring throughout; a kitchen with 3-inch chiseled-edge Black Rock Leather stone granite countertops, a large center island, and separate butler’s pantry; a romantic upstairs master suite overlooking the grounds and containing a luxurious master bath sporting an infrared sauna, steam shower, soaking tub and large dressing room.

The home also offers three bedroom suites downstairs, plus an office and a media room (each with fireplaces); a Crestron home automation system; a stellar sound system; and a double-gated motor court and four-car garage (with additional parking for 70 cars). It’s the perfect environment for an afternoon barbecue at the lake, twilight dinner or evening soirée with close friends and family.
