Bel-Air’s Chartwell Estate hits the market at $350 Million

Written by Alisha Henson

Recognized as the crown jewel of Bel-Air, the Chartwell Estate, was recently introduced to the market as the most expensive home for sale in the nation. Known to televison fans as the mansion from the 1960 TV comedy series, “The Beverly Hillbillies,” the home of late billionaire, Jerrold Perenchio, was inspired by a lavish 18th century neo-classical design. Built in 1933 by architect Summer Spaulding, and restored by designer Henri Samuel, the main residence totals over 25,000 sqft and includes a ballroom, world-class wine cellar, formal salon and  paneled dining room. The luxurious grounds include 10.3 acres of expertly manicured gardens, a tennis court, covered parking for 40 cars, a 75-foot pool and pool house, and panoramic views from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

Listed by Jeff Hyland, Drew Fenton and Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland; Joyce Rey, Jade Mills and Alexandra Allen of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury; Drew Gitlin and Susan Gitlin of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
