A Look Behind the Residences of Rolling Hills Country Club

Take a look at the Grand Opening of a new luxury development by the Chadmar Group as they fuse nature and design at the residences at Rolling Hills Country Club. Properties range from $2-5 million. Cliff May was a well-known builder and proponent of the California ranch home, designed as the “dream home” for the many Americans who settled into the newly-formed suburbs of Southern California during the post-war period. Joining elements of Spanish Revival architecture with Modernism, the appealing homes were low-slung structures with a horizontal orientation and a design that focused on easy living and welcoming in the outdoors—and they sold like hotcakes during the 1950s and 1960s.

Richard Neutra

VS America Reissues Richard Neutra Classic Designs

VS is to German design what architect Richard J. Neutra is to L.A.—fundamental to its identity. Ours is a city of Neutra’s elegant, clear-eyed modernism; those enormous glass walls, that startling seamlessness between indoor and outdoor space.

Snoop Home Tour 2018

More than 40 years ago, Manhattan Beach resident Debbie Walmer attended a seminar to brainstorm fund-raising ideas for the American Martyrs Parent Association. A lover of homes, she suggested a tour of some of the area’s standout properties.

Opening of the City’s Design Debutante Marks New Territory for Knoll

The opening of the city’s design debutante marks new territory for Knoll, which comes to L.A. by way of New York City and has only two direct-to-consumer retail locations—our local outpost the sequel to its longer-running show in NYC. Coveted for its modern designs—those geometrized, cleaned-lined things from Mid-century Modern masters like Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and current L.A. legend Frank Gehry—the au courant emporium is meant to connect two of the city’s more prolific communities: residential design professionals and consumers.

A Caras Homes Pristine Plantation

Built in 2013 by Caras Homes, the property’s well-maintained exterior consists of classic white siding, black plantation shutters, and a bright red door. Inside, the gorgeous upper level is light and airy with a slightly vaulted shiplap ceiling in the living room and a lovely fireplace tiled in a modern Moroccan motif. The fireplace is flanked by built-in cabinetry with wainscoting door details. Massive Nano doors lead out to a generous patio for indoor-outdoor living. The entire floor is trimmed with oversized windows, which allow natural light and incredible views to pour into the space.

Tichenor & Thorp

Design à Deux: Tichenor & Thorp

Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp are the quintessential team—reciprocal thinkers, simpatico in intelligences and appreciations, and nothing if not prolific, having completed more than 350 residential and commercial projects nationwide since launching their eponymous L.A. practice Tichenor & Thorp in 1990.
