ON THE COVER Luxe Loft: A sleek, light-filled loft on Venice’s vibrant Abbot Kinney Boulevard combines all the amenities of the city with serene beach living presented by Mark Kitching of Partners Trust.
The origin Rose Cafe bloomed in Venice in 1979. Over 30 years later, Sprout L.A. Restaurant Collaboration and chef-owner Jason Neroni partnered to shutter and revamp Rose Avenue’s eponymous cafe and restaurant, keeping original owners Kamal Kapur and Manhar Patel involved with the iconic restaurant.
1121 Abbot Kinney Architect Michael Sant of Sant Architects designed this sleek, white, award-winning building that includes eight units in 2006, garnering accolades from its inception. Located on the quiet end of the Boulevard, near Main Street, in the vibrant heart of Venice’s main thoroughfare, the building is just a quick walk from the beach. It’s also within yards of some of the area’s most lauded eateries, among them is Gjusta, The Rose Cafe and Gjelina.
The tendency of this latest group of restaurants is the move toward rustic beach casual by offering seasonal fare, communal tables, natural wood and light, and separate retail components for take-out dining and entertaining.
Branded after their children’s middle names, marlowe+jay the growing art and design business uses all-natural, non-toxic and recycled materials, expanding beyond teepees to make block-printed tea towels and tablecloths, indigo-dyed throws, hanging driftwood mobiles, succulent planters and hand-screen printed wall art.
With graduation come and gone and school officially out for summer, it’s time to pack up the car or van and hit the road to enjoy a little rest and relaxation with family and friends. Nowhere provides more options than the Golden State for varied geography and climate, natural beauty, miles of pristine beaches and rugged coastline or exhilarating man-made entertainment.
