Providing His Clients With Outdoor Living Spaces on Par With the Interiors of Their Homes is a Top Priority for Jeff Stimpfig & JDS Outdoor Designs

Bolstered by a lifelong passion for plants, architecture, construction, and outdoor design, he attended the landscape architecture program at UCLA before forming his own outdoor design and build firm, JDS Outdoor Designs, in Hermosa Beach in 2004.

“At a young age of 6, I started drawing and creating buildings, indoor spaces, and backyards,” says Jeff Stimpfig.

“Over the years, this vision and natural creativity I possessed at a young age evolved into drawing, illustration, computer graphics, photography, architecture, design, and now landscape architecture and builds. By the early 2000s, he determined that, as he puts it, landscape design and architecture was “my ultimate passion in the world of design, and I quickly realized this field was exactly where I wanted to live out my career.”

Fast-forward to today, and Stimpfig has completed some of the most stunning residential and commercial “architectural outdoor escapes” in the South Bay, primarily in the cities of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes. That includes more than 400 custom projects—all boasting his signature modern style—that incorporate pools and spas, outdoor kitchens, IPE dining decks, designer fences, and stone and tile patios, as well as large pergolas, outdoor fire-pit lounges and bars, low-maintenance plants and more.

“We have a strong passion for architecture, landscape design, construction, outdoor materials, textile design, computer graphics, and horticulture,” says Stimpfig. “Our biggest asset is our ability to visualize our clients’ exterior space and to transform that vision from thought into a full set of photo-realistic 3D renderings and layouts.

This process helps all of the parties involved, especially during our design and bid presentation,” Jeff Stimpfig adds.

“Our clients know exactly what the final product will look like before we start the build, along with exactly where their money is going.”

Standing out among his recent designs is a complete backyard renovation and transformation in Manhattan Beach. This concept included converting an overgrown, shaded, dysfunctional and flat yard—complete with a muddy lawn, cramped concrete dining area and gigantic trampoline that hadn’t been used in years—into a resort-style oasis replete with a large pergola sporting overhead heating and LED lighting, bar, kitchen, and dining area; dipping pool and oversized Jacuzzi (with an underground equipment vault); built-in concrete seating area next to a fire-pit; concrete planters with custom plant selections; and landscape lighting.

“They said they were tired of their flat, boring yard, and they asked us to fit in pretty much all of the outdoor items we prefer executing for our clients,” says Jeff Stimpfig.

“In the end, the final product turned out to be exactly like the photorealistic 3D renderings we presented to the clients from day one, so it’s safe to say that everyone was extremely pleased to see the final package.”
