Saffron Case’s Masterpiece: 22160 Pacific Coast Highway an Oasis on Carbon Beach

With its rare 60 feet of ocean frontage, 22160 Pacific Coast Highway a 4,400-square-foot house honors its prime location through a sophisticated design by Saffron Case.

Located on world-renowned Carbon Beach, 22160 Pacific Coast Highway offers sweeping coastline and island views with a contemporary design by British-born, California-based property developer and interior designer Saffron Case.

“I think growing up in London and having exposure to beautiful architecture and history combined with the influences of California living have played a large part in determining my overall aesthetic,” she says.

With four bedrooms and five bathrooms, 22160 Pacific Coast Highway is a completely remodeled oceanfront home that features an open plan living room and dining room—where custom rift white oak cabinetry and plaster walls prevail—with a separate, bespoke bar area which is Saffron Case’s favorite room.

“The blackened copper and the peach-tinted mirror give it a sort of laid-back glamor,” she says. “It was also the perfect solution to create a moment in the area under the stairs. I had a lot of fun designing it.”

The extensive primary suite—which includes a connected office, large oceanfront bathroom and expansive walk-in closet—runs the length of the home.

“Weirdly it was the hardest space to design,” remembers Saffron Case. “When I purchased the house, it had a strange layout and it took me a while to clean it up. Now that it’s done, it seems like the natural configuration—but transforming it took some trickery.”

Every area and element of the house was carefully considered—from the AV cabinet lined with wood detail to the machine room with built-in cabinetry.

“I love the light switches,” says Saffron Case. “They are Forbes & Lomax and the finish is beautiful. On the ground floor, they are finished in antique bronze and upstairs they are aged brass.”

A Julie Nelson bird sculpture sourced from Garde, Henry Wilson sconces and RW Guild pendant lights also adorn this home where the 60-foot deck with surfboard storage, a BBQ, a fire pit, and an outdoor shower make it an entertainer’s dream.
