Sacks on the Beach is a friendly spot for healthy salads, scrumptious sandwiches, and more
From its exterior, the eatery, with the bright-orange awning, looks like any other beachside stop in the South Bay, with flip-flopped locals lounging over frothy cappuccinos and yoga-garbed ladies sitting with their kids. What sets it apart, though, is a plum Riviera Village location—steps from the beach, on the corner of Catalina and Avenue I—making Sacks on the Beach the only fast-casual cafe in town with a view of the Pacific.
The menu is packed with hearty breakfast sandwiches and each day there’s a healthy soup made from scratch. Popular selections include the spinach salad topped with fresh berries and feta cheese, and the Frenchie sandwich— a concoction of melted Brie and raspberry sauce layered over turkey and green apples and set atop a downy croissant. (Tip: If you’re a coffee-lover, stop by from 3 p.m. onward, when all coffee drinks are two-for-one.)
There are trays of cookies, brownies and other just-baked delights in the display case, and a juice bar with fresh, tasty concoctions like the Ginger Ale—carrots, oranges and ginger—and the Kitchen Sink, made with kale, jalapeño, apples, and more. Come here a few times and don’t be surprised to hear one of the sunny staff greet you by name.
