The Times They Are A-Changin’

cover of magazine DIGS

Here are the lyrics for the opening verse of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin'”:

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
And you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

Bob Dylan, “The Times They Are A-Changin'”

You may have heard of that ‘ole investing mantra… “Don’t Fight the Fed” …

… it’s a cautionary tale suggesting that it’s better to align your investments with the current monetary policies of the Fed rather than “fight” against them.

Or HG Wells’ famous line…

Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature’s inexorable imperative.

Or this one from Confucius…

Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change.”

Well, my fine friends, change is upon us.

The impetus – inflation.

That nasty 9-letter word wreaks havoc on the meek and mightiest alike – including us media folks who dare continue this analog dance in an overly digital world!

It’s no secret that inflation is here and prices for just about everything are on the rise – in fact, inflation just hit a record 41-year high.

The implications have been both vast and economically profound (in a destructive manner) in the printing world, as pricing continues to escalate across the entire supply chain to produce DIGS magazine, (i.e., prices have soared for paper, distribution, fuel surcharges, etc.)

So, we had a choice to make:

  1. Pass along insanely high price increases to our much-valued long-time advertising partners who have supported us through “thick and thin” all these years, or…
  2. Reduce the size of our publication from its original oversized tabloid size to a more standard size book and call it even.

It was a simple choice and allows us to accomplish 3 very important things:

  1. Allows us to avoid passing along crazy high price increases to our advertisers.
  2. Allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by consuming less paper and ink and is more environmentally friendly.
  3. Positions us for long-term sustainability if prices continue to increase, which by every measure, appears to be the case moving forward.

Other than the size change, nothing else changes with DIGS – we’ll still be the leading real estate media brand locally and the go-to resource for real estate in the communities we serve.

Did you know?…

… on October 7th of this year, we’ll be celebrating our 12-year anniversary of DIGS, which is just amazing!

We remain eternally grateful, humble, and thankful for having had the privilege of serving you all these years, and look forward to the future, and whatever changes time brings.

Committed, in your service ~
