Rolling Zone Creamery’s Sensational Scoops

Rolling Zone Creamery’s handmade ice cream is a truly sweet treat

A new ice cream shop that allows customers to watch as their treats are mixed and prepared has rolled into town. The mixing and blending process inspired by street vendors in Thailand is not only cool to watch, it also creates creamy, silky smooth concoctions tinged with tasty flavors from green tea to Nutella and more.

“Rolling Zone Creamery has brought people together around delicious ice cream,” says trained gourmet chef Juan José Da Silva, who opened the shop last July with partners Mishell Flood, and Liliana Barker.

“People come from all over town not just to enjoy the ice cream…Our facility allows people to just sit and spend time with friends and family while enjoying a sweet treat and wonderful atmosphere.”

Taking up residence on the northeast corner of Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach boulevards in Lawndale, Rolling Zone Creamery features a lively ambience filled with blue hues, fun décor and upbeat music.

“Mix that with the harmonious beats of the staff blending and mashing the fresh ingredients, and you can’t help but run to the line to get your order in,” says Da Silva.

How does it work? Once a flavor is chosen, a batch of freshly made organic base is poured onto pizza-like pans that are set to below-freezing temperatures. The base is mixed with the ingredients that make up the selected flavor, and with the use of spatula-like paddles, staff begins the process of mashing and mixing in ingredients.

Once ingredients are well mixed, the ice cream is spread across the pan into a thin layer then scraped into rolls and served in a generously portioned cup. The cup is then adorned with homemade organic whipped cream and toppings.

Among the highlights: Banatella (a blend of bananas and Nutella); True Passion (with natural passion fruit juice); Tropical Night (pineapple, coconut and activated charcoal); and Matcha-Matcha (with an organic green tea base). Also available is Very Berry, Wild Mango, Lemon Pie, Coffee Break, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Explosion and Choco Mint, with seasonal items regularly added to the menu.

“If you haven’t experienced rolled ice cream yet, you just have to come taste and see if for yourself; there is no other like it,” says Da Silva. “And if you have experienced other rolled ice creams, you have to come so you can taste the difference that the organic base and natural ingredients make… you won’t regret it.”
