The Spirit of the Neighborhood Market is Alive and Well at Manhattan Meats
Step inside this unpretentious local market in the midst of Manhattan Avenue and find a row of deli cases packed snugly with carnivorous delights. Behind the counter, butchers stay busy concocting piled-high sandwiches and wrapping up thick steaks and seasoned meats for a steady stream of locals. Popular picks include fresh chicken, pork or beef kebobs and teriyaki skirt steaks, along with flavorful tri-tip and flank steaks infused with a ginger marinade.
Come in a few times and you’ll likely be greeted by name. “I try to get all the guys to learn people’s names,” says owner and Manhattan Beach native Dean Tribble, whose affinity for his hometown and its locals figured largely in his decision to take the helm as owner of Manhattan Meats back in the early 90s.
“I have customers I’ve been waiting on for over 35 years,” adds Tribble with a grin. “I started working here in high school, back in 1976.”
