Jae Joo Highlights Vintage Dreams in NYC

In the Manhattan Dream Loft of Interior Designer Jae Joo, Historic Architectural Details Highlight Her Antique Collection

“We visited a lot of lofts but couldn’t find many that weren’t just white long boxes,” recalls Jae Joo. “When we first saw this place, we fell in love with all the architectural details, like the 1920s-style arched windows with thick moldings and brick walls. It adds such a strong character to the house.”

When she arrived at her new home, Joo didn’t have a color palette in mind. The only thing she knew was that the white and brick walls could be mixed and matched with different tones.

For years, Joo has collected antiques and vintage objects that she naturally incorporated into her new home. Every nook echoes her love for using classic designs with playful, humorous, or odd elements.

After three years of living here, Joo is thinking about a possible renovation. She doesn’t know when she will start this project, but the idea is taking shape.

“We love everything that is original to the house, although the finishes are outdated,” Joo says. “It would be nice to see it with some contrasting modern touches. Her home is, she adds, “a never-ending project.” jaejoodesigns.com
